Train hard indoors without wrecking the floor underneath, with a bike trainer mat built to take sweat, vibration and the weight of a heavy spin bike.

A 7 mm soft PVC mat measuring 76 x 152 cm that grips the floor, blocks moisture and quietens the rumble from trainers, treadmills, rowers and stationary bikes.

A 76 x 152 cm bike trainer mat sized to sit under spin bikes, turbo trainers, rowers and most upright exercise bikes.

The 7 mm soft PVC construction absorbs vibration so the floor and the room below stay calmer during intervals.

A waterproof top surface keeps sweat, drink spills and condensation off carpet and timber.

Non-slip backing helps the mat hold its spot on tiles, hard floors and low-pile carpet.

Cleaning is quick, a wipe with a damp cloth and a little air drying time.

Bike Trainer Mat

Indoor training is brilliant for consistency and terrible for floors. A heavy spin bike on bare boards hums through the joists, a turbo trainer drips sweat onto carpet, and a rower slides a few millimetres with every stroke until it is nowhere near where you left it. This bike trainer mat is the simple fix. It is a single sheet of 7 mm soft PVC measuring roughly 76 x 152 cm, which covers the footprint of most stationary bikes and trainers with room left for your feet.

Bike Trainer Mat

Thickness is where a mat earns its keep. Seven millimetres gives enough body to take the edge off vibration rather than just acting as a thin barrier. You will still hear a flywheel spinning, that is physics, but the harsh transfer into a timber floor or a shared wall drops noticeably. The soft version also feels better underfoot if you step off the bike for stretching or a few floor exercises between efforts.

Bike Trainer Mat

The surface is waterproof, which matters more than people expect. Sweat is salty and acidic, and over months it will mark timber, stain carpet and creep into the seams of laminate. Here it beads on the top layer and wipes away. The same goes for the occasional knocked-over bottle. Nothing soaks through to the floor underneath.

Bike Trainer Mat

Grip comes from the material itself rather than spikes or adhesive. The mat sits flat and stays flat on tiles, hard floors and low-pile carpet, and it is designed not to leave marks on the floor when you lift it. That means you can set up in the living room before a session and roll the whole thing away afterwards without arguing with anyone about the carpet.

Bike Trainer Mat

It arrives rolled, weighs 1.72 kg, and is light enough to move with one hand. Give it a day laid flat and the shipping curl relaxes. New PVC can carry a faint smell when the carton is first opened, which airs out quickly in a ventilated room. The bike or trainer is not included.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is a bike trainer mat?

It is a protective sheet of flooring that sits between your exercise equipment and the floor. It catches sweat, cuts down vibration and stops the machine sliding around. This one is a single piece of 7 mm soft PVC measuring about 76 x 152 cm.

How big is the mat?

The usable size is 30 x 60 inches, which works out to roughly 76 x 152 cm. That footprint suits most upright and spin bikes with space left over for your feet when you dismount.

How thick is it?

Thickness is 0.7 cm, or 7 mm. That is substantial for a rollable mat and is the main reason it handles vibration better than a thin yoga-style sheet.

What is it made from?

The material type listed is polyvinyl chloride (PVC), in the soft version of this mat. PVC is used widely for gym flooring because it is waterproof, tough and easy to wipe clean.

Will it protect a timber floor?

Yes, that is one of its main jobs. The waterproof top layer keeps sweat off the boards and the 7 mm body spreads the load from the machine's feet. It is designed not to leave marks on the floor underneath.

Can I use it on carpet?

Yes. The mat holds position on carpet as well as tiles and hard floors, and it stops sweat soaking into the pile. On very thick, deep-pile carpet any mat will feel slightly softer underneath, so check your machine still sits level.

Does it stop my spin bike from moving?

It helps a lot. The mat grips the floor and the machine grips the mat, which reduces the creeping you get during hard out-of-the-saddle efforts. For the best spin bike mat results, make sure the bike's feet sit fully on the surface rather than half off the edge.

Will it make my workouts quieter?

It takes the edge off. The 7 mm layer absorbs a good share of the vibration that would otherwise travel into floorboards and through to rooms below. Mechanical noise from the flywheel or belt still carries through the air.

Is it actually waterproof?

Yes, the listed special feature is waterproof. Sweat, condensation and spilled drinks sit on the surface rather than soaking through. Wipe it down and the floor underneath stays dry.

Can I use this under a treadmill?

Yes. It is suitable for treadmills as well as bikes, rowers and steppers. Treadmills are often wider than this mat, so measure the machine's base first to be sure the footprint is covered.

Does it suit a rowing machine?

It works well under the front end and seat rail of most rowers, which is where the weight and sweat concentrate. Full-length rowers may extend past the 152 cm length, so check your model. Plenty of people looking for the best rowing machine mat pair two mats end to end.

Will it work with a turbo trainer?

Yes. A turbo trainer under a road bike transfers a lot of vibration into the floor, and a mat is one of the cheapest ways to reduce it. It also catches the sweat that drips off the bars during long sessions.

Can I walk on it in cycling shoes with cleats?

The top layer is made to be stepped on, which is useful when clipping in and out. Treat metal cleats with a bit of care, as hard scraping on any PVC surface will mark it over time.

Does it smell when I open it?

New PVC can carry a light smell when it comes out of a sealed carton. Unroll it in a ventilated room and it fades quickly. Leaving it flat for a day helps both the smell and the shipping curl.

How long will delivery take?

We dispatch within 2 working days. Delivery then takes up to 7 working days by tracked courier, anywhere in New Zealand. It is free on orders over $75 and a flat $25 below that, shown in your basket before you pay. You get tracking details by email once the parcel is dispatched.

How do I clean it?

Wipe the surface with a damp cloth after sweaty sessions, then let it air dry. Avoid bleach and strong solvents. That is all the maintenance it needs for most home gym use.

Can I use floor cleaner or disinfectant spray on it?

Stick to mild options and a damp cloth. Harsh chemicals and bleach can dry out and discolour PVC over time. A gentle soapy water wipe followed by a clean damp cloth is safe.

Should I store it rolled or flat?

Flat is ideal if you have the space. If you need to store it away, roll it loosely rather than folding it, since sharp folds can leave permanent creases in PVC.

How heavy is it?

The item weight is 1.72 kg, which is 3.79 pounds. One person can carry and reposition it easily.

What colour is it?

The listed pattern is solid and the shape is rectangular.

Is the bike or trainer included?

No. You receive the mat only. The included components are listed simply as the product, with one unit per order.

Can I cut it to size?

PVC can be trimmed with a sharp utility knife and a straight edge, though cutting is at your own discretion and cannot be undone. Measure twice, work on a protected surface and take several shallow passes rather than one deep cut.

Will it slide on polished concrete?

It holds well on smooth hard surfaces. If the floor is both polished and dusty, sweep first, since grit under any mat reduces grip.

Is it good for stretching or floor work?

The soft version is comfortable enough for stretching before and after a ride. It is not a dedicated yoga mat, but for a quick cool-down next to the bike it does the job.

Does it leave marks on the floor?

It is made to sit on the floor without marking it. As with any mat, lift it occasionally and let the floor underneath air out, especially on timber in humid conditions.

Does this make a sensible gift?

It does for anyone who has recently bought a trainer or exercise bike, since the mat is the accessory people forget until the floor is already marked. It is light to post and does not need sizing like clothing. Searching for the best home gym floor mat is a common first step for new indoor riders.

What if the mat is not right for my setup?

Measure your machine's footprint against the 76 x 152 cm size before you set it up, as that is the most common mismatch. If it still is not suitable, contact us with your order number and we will talk through the return options for your country. Keep the original packaging where you can, it makes sending anything back much easier.

Is there a warranty?

No separate warranty is sold. The Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 applies in full, and faulty items are put right. Contact us with your order number and a photo and we will sort it out.

Can I return it if it is not right for me?

Yes. Contact us first and we will walk you through the return under our refunds and returns policy. Keep the box and packaging, and leave the item unused until you are sure it suits, because an unused item is the simplest return.

Can I ask a question before I order?

Yes. Send us your bike type and what you want this to do, and we will tell you honestly whether it is the right fit before you buy.

How To Choose A Bike Trainer Mat That Protects Your Floor

6 min read Bike Stand Company

The problem nobody mentions when you buy a trainer

Indoor training gear arrives in a big box and the excitement lasts about a week. Then you notice things. There is a dark patch on the carpet under the handlebars. The timber floor has four faint dents where the feet sit. Someone downstairs mentions, politely at first, that they can hear you doing intervals at six in the morning. And the bike has somehow shuffled forty centimetres to the left since Tuesday.

None of these are deal breakers on their own. Together they are the reason home gyms get dismantled and sold. A mat solves most of them for a fraction of what the equipment cost, which makes it one of the few accessories that genuinely pays for itself.

What a mat actually does

Three jobs, and it does them in different ways.

The first is moisture. Sweat is not just water. It carries salt and oils that will stain carpet, mark timber and work into the seams of laminate flooring. A waterproof mat keeps all of it on the surface where a cloth can deal with it. This one is listed as waterproof, which is the single most useful feature for anyone doing hard indoor sessions.

The second is vibration. A spin bike with a heavy flywheel, or a trainer with a road bike bolted into it, pushes a low rumble straight into the floor structure. Hard floors transmit that beautifully, which is lovely for a concert hall and awful for an apartment. Putting 7 mm of soft PVC in the path breaks the direct contact and takes the edge off. You will not get silence. You will get a noticeable drop in the deep thrum that travels through walls and ceilings.

The third is grip. Machines move. Rowers slide back on the stroke, bikes creep forward under out-of-the-saddle efforts, treadmills walk sideways over weeks. A mat that holds the floor and holds the machine stops most of that drift.

Why thickness matters more than area

People shop for mats by looking at length and width. That is understandable, but thickness is what separates a mat that works from one that is just a barrier.

Thin mats, the 2 or 3 mm kind, will stop sweat and that is roughly it. They have no body to absorb anything. Once you get to 6 or 7 mm you have enough material to compress slightly under load and dissipate energy rather than pass it straight through. This mat sits at 0.7 cm, which is 7 mm, in the soft version of the material. That combination gives you cushioning without the mat being so thick that your machine starts to feel unstable.

There is a trade-off worth knowing. Very soft, very thick mats can let a machine rock a little, especially tall spin bikes with a narrow base. Seven millimetres is a sensible middle ground for most home setups.

Measuring before you buy

This is where people get caught out, so do it properly.

The mat measures 30 x 60 inches, about 76 x 152 cm. Go and measure the actual footprint of your machine, meaning the outside edges of the stabiliser feet, not the overall silhouette of the frame.

Most upright exercise bikes, spin bikes and turbo trainers fit comfortably inside that with room to spare. Full-size commercial treadmills and long rowing machines often do not. If you have a rower with a 240 cm rail, you have two options. Place the mat under the front end and the seat area, where weight and sweat concentrate, or buy two mats and run them end to end. Both work. The second is tidier.

For treadmills specifically, measure the width across the motor cowling as well as the base. Some are wider than 76 cm and will overhang. People hunting for the best treadmill mat for carpet frequently need a wider sheet than a cycling mat provides, so check the numbers rather than guessing.

Floor by floor

Timber and laminate. This is where a mat does the most good. Hard floors mark easily under point loads and they resent moisture. Lay the mat flat, set the machine on it, and lift the mat every few weeks to let the boards breathe.

Tiles. Grout lines collect sweat and go grey. A mat stops that and also cuts the sharp echo you get off a hard tiled surface. The mat grips tiles well as long as they are clean.

Carpet. The waterproof layer matters most here, because carpet absorbs everything and holds onto it. Check your machine still sits level once the mat is on top of the pile. On very deep carpet you may want to add a thin board beneath for a firmer base.

Concrete or garage. Comfortable enough for stepping on in bare feet, which concrete is not, and it keeps dust off your machine's underside. Sweep first, because grit trapped between any mat and concrete is abrasive.

Setting it up well

Unroll the mat the opposite way to how it came packed, lay it flat and leave it alone for a day. Room temperature helps the PVC relax, so bring it inside rather than flattening it in a cold garage.

New PVC from a sealed carton often has a faint smell for the first few minutes. Open a window, let it air and it goes.

Position the machine so every foot sits well inside the edge of the mat. Feet balanced on the edge are the main cause of mats curling and machines rocking. If your floor is not perfectly level, adjust the machine's own levelling feet rather than packing anything under the mat.

Keeping it in good shape

Maintenance is minimal. Wipe the surface with a damp cloth after sweaty sessions and let it air dry. Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals, which dry out PVC and can discolour it. A mild soapy water wipe followed by a clean damp cloth is plenty.

If you need to store the mat, roll it loosely rather than folding. Folds in PVC can set as permanent creases, and a creased mat does not lie flat again. Keep it out of prolonged direct sunlight where you can.

For anyone stepping on and off in cycling shoes, be a bit deliberate about it. Metal cleats dragged hard across any PVC surface will scuff it eventually. Step, do not scrape.

Who this suits

Apartment riders who need to keep the peace with neighbours. Anyone with timber or laminate floors and a machine that weighs more than they do. People who sweat heavily, which after twenty minutes on a trainer is most of us. Families who need to set the bike up in a shared room and roll it all away afterwards without leaving evidence.

It is less essential if your gear lives permanently in a garage on bare concrete and noise is irrelevant. Even then, a mat makes the space more pleasant to use and keeps dust out of the mechanism.

The short version

A trainer mat is a small purchase that protects a large one. This is 7 mm of soft PVC at 76 x 152 cm, waterproof, non-slip and light at 1.72 kg. Measure your machine's footprint against that size, lay the mat flat for a day before use, wipe it down after sessions and keep bleach away from it.

Do that and the floor underneath will look the same in three years as it does today, which is more than most home gyms can claim.
